Apple Music...
« on: January 16, 2017, 06:37:20 PM »
...is the best thing ever. Has anyone checked it out? I'm doing a 90 day free trial and think I'll keep it for $9.99 a month after that. They have had about 95% or more of things I've searched for.

Having said that, I'd rather listen to Papa Roach than GG Allin

I never really understood paying for any music streaming service if that's what this is. Is the $9.99 just so you don't have to listen to the 5-15 second ads that play on occasion before the songs? I can't remember the last time I was not able to find a song I wanted to listen to on either youtube or the musicians bandcamp.

I do kind of wish I still had an ipod though with 20,000+ songs it like I did in college. Between what.cd and the section of the old forum where people would post links for album downloads, I had a really solid selection there for awhile. Thanks to everyone here who had contributed to that.

I am on a friend's Spotify family plan and that covers me pretty well.

The paid Spotify plans let you download music so you can listen to it offline and stuff.

You can download all of the songs to your phone so you don't need wifi or data to listen to them. You can also set it up so that whatever you download on your phone or tablet is automatically downloaded on your other devices. I'm not sure what happens to downloaded stuff once the free trial is up but I'm backing them up on my laptop so I won't lose them if that is indeed what happens. If it just got rid of ads then I wouldn't be interested.

I'm completely out of the loop when it comes to downloading free music. All of the sites I used to go to have been shut down and I haven't learned how to download free music without using torrents. If I can do this for free that would be great I just don't know how.

torrents still exist and everything is still on youtube, and if you're desperate, it's pretty easy to download from youtube... but I don't really feel much of a need to download anything these days

So you're telling me you DON'T want to download Strung Out, Propagandhi, and every other awesome punk band from the 90s discographies? Mr. T Experience and the Queers coming right up (only doing about half of the Queers and MTX discographies honestly). 2pac and Outkast had their full catalogs downloaded earlier.

no, i don't have any need to have a local copy of that in 2017. It's all available via free streaming services somewhere, i don't need it taking up space on my phone or whatever.

I don't even know where to torrent things anymore. Everywhere is getting taken down. I haven't had a lot of time to listen to new music lately though so I'm pretty out of the loop. I still use this guy:

I still buy around a record a week for my at home listening pleasure and at work everything is stream-able from the computer.

I totally get for people with long commutes or those who like to do physical activities and listen on the go, but I'm pretty stationary.

Come to think of it, I should really start working out some. I'm way out of shape.

I just walk right up to bands and punch them in their genitals and demand they play me their songs right then and there, stupid musicians.

I also use my Zune when I'm out and about, heck yeah.

I do find that I rarely download things anymore. I don't use any legal sites, either. I just pay for music now. Pretty weird, considering my long, and to me very important history of downloading.
