I made a little iPhone stand for my desk at work. I don't use the iPhone as a phone, just as a music player and I plug it into a little speaker. I got sick of laying it flat on the desk because it always changes orientation and annoys me when i'm choosing music. I made it out of a copper wire and orange electrical tape. (orange is my thing)

It holds it vertically or horizontally. I really like it, I might make another one so I can do it better.

About how much are you wanting to spend? Over 5k, I'd go with any Nissan, Toyota, or Honda hatchback. Less than 5k, maybe a Ford Ranger? Unless you can find a good deal on a Japanese hatchback. That's pretty much my rule of thumb. Japanese cars if you can afford one, but American if it's cheap and needs to be cheap and easy to fix.
