I thought you'd like Foxcatcher more than you did. I need to check out Whiplash, A Most Violent Year, and finish Inherent Vice. I am about halfway through. Amanda thought it was boring so I switched it to Selma.

Selma: B-

Lonely Island videos. I call them "comfort videos" and have several other types of videos that can always make me smile. I especially like when Justin Timberlake is involved. I've grown to respect his talent over the years.

American Sniper: C (good performance by Bradley Cooper but otherwise a boring movie; the Hurt Locker did a better job of conveying the themes in American Sniper)
Birdman: A- (very good and original; I didn't care for the ending but that's okay)
Foxcatcher: A (amazing performances by all; it is a shame it didn't get an Oscar nomination for best picture as I think it's the best film of 2014; highly recommended.)

I am still baffled that someone who is into punk music doesn't like any Propagandhi. I'm getting an error message in my brain when I try to process it.

NOFX, I'll love this band until the day I die.
Agreed. I like most bands that are or were signed to Fat. I haven't listened to any that have signed recently but Fat and Epitaph were killing it in the 90s and early 2000s.

Yeah, I'll second Minor Threat. Black Flag aren't that great either. Any band that is hardcore and doesn't have much variation or melody really doesn't do a thing for me. I can tolerate it but don't like it.

propaghandi. i truly can't stand them.
Are you talking ALL Propagandhi? They've had several different sounds since they formed. Do you hate it all?

Everyone should see Nightcrawler. It's pretty damn good. Boyhood was good but isn't something I'd watch again. It did a great job of portraying family. If you have 3 hours to sit and watch it, I think it's worth it. I think it's really cool how it was made over 12 years so there was no need for artificial aging or different actors.

Boy, you have it figured out when it comes to exercise. I just plan on starting slow given how long it has been since I exercised regularly. I don't care about anything but shrinking my gut. The rest of my body is relatively in shape it's just this big ol' gut that has to go. I just plan on doing sit ups or crunches on a daily basis for a start.

Wow! So many board members are getting engaged, married, and having kids. It's been really cool to see people's lives change on this board over the nearly 10 years that I've been posting here.

Congratulations, Lindsey! It sounds like things are going well for you. I'm sure you will meet your goals.

I've watched Nightcrawler, Boyhood, and The Interview this past week. I enjoyed all 3 but Nightcrawler was my favorite of the 3. It reminds me a lot of Taxi Driver which is one of my favorite movies. I'm going to do tweek Brett's thing and assign a grade.

Nightcrawler: A
Boyhood: A-
The Interview: B- (context had an effect on how enjoyable it was; if Kim Jong Un and North Korea wouldn't have made such a fuss, I would have probably given it a C+. Him being mocked in the movie was more worthwhile)

hearing this made my day. you're a great person and i'm sure your wife is a beautiful woman. remember she's not perfect, and neither are you but the idiosyncrasies that can lead to fight and annoyance wind up being the things you miss the most about that person when they are gone so stick through it. marriage won't be easy. I'm not married but I'm making a pretty well researched assumption that it has its up's and down's but as long as you found someone who loves you for who you are, the good the bad and the ugly, and same for them, then you two are doing you're part to saving the world. I gotta get a little hippie-ish but love is life and the only way we can survive as a race. congrats on your beautiful journey onward. Are you guys planning on having children?
She has 2 kids from a previous marriage; a boy and a girl ages 15 and 10 respectively. It's been a big transition during the past 5 months we've all been living together but it has been good. We don't plan on having any other children. I don't much want to pass on some of the genes I have and am pretty sure she's over the whole being pregnant and staying up all night with a baby thing. I'm cool with this and am going to try to be the best step dad I can be.

Thanks to everyone. Becca, we just went to the courthouse on Christmas Eve. It wasn't anything fancy. After we did family stuff for Christmas we had a brief ceremony in our living room with a few close family members. My mom and Amanda's mom took photos. I'll post them after I get them. I've put on a little weight so I'm not sure if I want to post them...haha.

We were somewhat impulsive about getting married, though we've been engaged for over a year. I mentioned in passing that it would be cool to get married on Christmas or Christmas Eve due to both of us having time off from work this week. She ran with it and got the details ironed out. We got rings Christmas Eve. It was a very good Christmas.

Everyone was surprised when I posted it on FB as only a few people knew about it due to it happening seemingly out of nowhere.

I'm not sure what an Internet batchelor party would look like. 4 tabs of porn streaming at the same time while drinking? Sounds like a Brian Tightpants kind of night.

Your idea of a stag party seems pretty intense. I'd play a game of Mario Kart for the fate of humanity.

WHOA! CONGRAT TO THE U TO THE LATIONS!

its never too late for an internet stag! (beg your pardon, my viewing of comedy television is 99% British tv so if you aren't famililar with stag party, the word party should clear that up)
Isn't a stag party just a batchelor party? Everytime I've heard the term stag party it was a party where strippers were involved.

I tried to find the thread where I posted about getting engaged but couldn't find it. It feels weird to say "my wife" but in a good way.

It has been a good Christmas/Christmas Eve. I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays.

I've never been a big bad religion fan. When I first got into punk I pretended to like them because I felt like I was supposed to. I didn't like Green Day either. Also I don't know how everyone on here feels about Tom Waits but I know hes definitely not for everyone (I love him)
I probably wouldn't have liked Green Day either if I was your age. It makes me feel really fucking old to realize that when I bought Dookie you were 1 or 2 and was listening to Nirvana before you were born. I've never felt more like an old man in my life.

No one hates Bad Religion, do they? Most people on here appear to like the bands you've been talking about (except GG Allin, I assume most people so think that he sucks and hate him).

I know that everyone agrees that Ben Weasel is one of if not the worst human beings in punk rock but do people hate Screeching Weasel? I thought we all agree that the Screeching Weasel albums from the early to mid 90s were pretty fucking awesome. I really like Emo too and I believe it's late 90s.

I'm a little older than most and HATED Blink 182 growing up. They were a step above the likes of Good Charlotte but still pretty bad. I guess there are a couple songs on Dude Ranch that I liked (but wouldn't admit at the time). I'm on bored for the Goo Goo Dolls. I liked their stuff up to and including a Boy Named Goo. I got really sick of seeing the video to that song from the Nicolas Cage movie though that was a bit later.

I'll always love Green Day no matter how shitty their music gets or how many stupid musicals they do. The point at which they started sucking is debatable but the fact that they were fucking awesome is not.

The 90s had the best music.

Nirvana-Come as You Are. Almost everyone I know learned that song as one of their first. Green Day-Brain Stew was second.

I don't know. It could just because I've seen it so many times, often against my wishes. I think I just got burnt out on it. I could give it another try. I find some of the characters pretty annoying including some that I don't believe are supposed to be annoying. I feel like the main freshman in the movie was miscast.

I guess hate would be the wrong word. I just kind of feel "meh" about it.

Castaway
Agreed. There are several movies with which I view negatively based on negative events I associate with them. They played Castaway like 3 times during the 5 days I spent in the hospital in 2002. I hated it when I saw it (I obviously was not feeling great at the time) and it just reminds me of those 5 days of hell when I see it on. Does anyone else hate movies due to associating them with bad life events?

Oh and Matthew McConaughey is awesome. I don't care about all of the dog shit romantic comedies that he's been in that I've never seen. Dallas Buyers Club was awesome and so was True Detective. His role in Tropic Thunder mentioned about was good, as well. I can't think of other McConaughy movies right now but I even liked him in Dazed and Confused. I used to like that movie when I was in high school but now hate. Do people like Dazed and Confused on the board? If not, did you ever?

I felt so out of place with friends and acquaintances in high school and college because I though Boondocks Saints was terrible. My former roommate talked to me like I had three heads when I told her I didn't like it. She had posters and shit. I never understood it. What I DO like is the documentary about the making of the movie where the asshole director goes from top of the world and gets smacked down to earth hard. It was refreshing to see an asshole fail mostly for being an asshole.
